HOW CAN I TRAIN MY SELF-MOTIVATION?
Keys to developing your self-motivation
I suggest that you take pen and paper and reflect on these key aspects in the development of your self-motivation:
Self
One of the main points to develop self-motivation is self-knowledge, that is, reflecting on what motivates you:
What do you consider most important in your life?
What drives you to achieve your goals?
Identifying what your purpose and values are in life is the first reflection I propose.
From there, it’s interesting to think about how your values relate to the professional goals you set for yourself:
What is the relationship between your scale of values and the professional situation or goal you are considering?
Are those values aligned with goals? Do they conflict in any way?
Identifying which of your values underpins your goal is important to finding the strength and energy that will help you achieve them.
Self-regulation
Another key to self-motivation is self-regulation. I suggest that you reflect and write down what works for you to regulate your emotions and return to the state you want to have once you identify emotions that destabilize you.
To give a few examples, there are people who, in situations of emotional tension, prefer to concentrate on their breathing, go for a walk in the fresh air, dance or sing a song that they like or relax, meditate or visualize an image that reminds them of a positive emotional state they experienced in the past, or mentally repeat some phrases that give them strength.
What works best for you? What would you like to try the next time you face an emotionally tense situation?
It is also interesting to have complementary resources to support your knowledge and emotional management, such as books, videos and techniques related to the practice of self-motivation and that can help you internalize it as a habit, which will make it easier for you to do the practice constantly over time and end up integrating it into your day to day.
Self-discipline
To facilitate self-motivation , it is important to visualize where you want to go, be clear about how you are going to achieve it and commit to yourself with perseverance on the plan you have established to achieve what you have set out to do. I invite you to make these reflections in writing and establish your concrete action plan:
- What do you want to achieve? What are the main phases for this? On what dates do you want to get them? What resources do you need?
- What is your level of commitment and involvement in those goals? How are you going to track the results you’ve set out to achieve?
- How are you going to organize yourself to make that action plan effective? It is very important that you take the time to think about your organization and planning of tasks.
Results-oriented
People with high motivation tend to have a strong personal drive to achieve something that motivates them or to surpass themselves.
They have a growth mindset, rather than having a fixed mindset. The growth mindset manifests itself in the conviction that they can improve their skills and abilities through their work and effort.
If you have a growth mindset, you’ll be much more likely to succeed in whatever path you choose. It will give you the strength to take action and believe in yourself and that you are responsible for much of what you achieve.
In that sense, it is also important to have the initiative to take advantage of opportunities when they come your way. That also means the courage to make decisions and take certain risks, after thinking carefully about the possible options and making sure as much as possible that you are making the right decision.
What do you think about self-motivation? What would you like to share in relation to self-motivation?
