We are now going to deal with an intrapersonal intelligence competency, which is the ability to adapt to the digital environment, something that years ago was not so critical, but which is currently a necessary competence in professionals who join digital organizations.
This competence refers to the proactivity of the person to assimilate digital changes and advances and even promote a dynamic of continuous improvement supported by technological advances.
People who are highly adapted to digital environments are able to use digital devices, communication applications and networks to manage information, create and share digital content, know how to work in collaborative digital networks and continuously learn new tools to communicate, collaborate and solve problems.
Adaptation to the digital environment, increasingly in demand
Organizations are increasingly demanding flexible and agile professionals who adapt to the continuous changes in the environment, including the dizzying advances in technology.
Success in digital transformation implies the rapid and effective adaptation of professionals to technological innovations.
This competence is therefore related to other intrapersonal intelligence competences discussed above, such as information search, learning capacity, communication, collaboration, innovation and results-orientation.
People with a high capacity to adapt to the digital environment are able to work both autonomously and remotely in a team, being able to be connected anywhere in the world and at any time, and understanding how to benefit from the possibilities offered by technology for this.
They are able to work remotely, self-manage and, in turn, communicate and collaborate remotely with other professionals effectively as well.
HOW CAN I DEVELOP MY ADAPTATION TO THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT?
• Continuous digital learning and information search: I propose that you reflect on the following questions:
1) How do you perform in digital environments? What tools do you know and use to search for and manage information, work remotely or collaborate online with other people (Trello, Asana, Jira…)?
2) How do you currently manage your corporate and own digital identity?
3) How do you monitor the information relevant to you on the network and subscribe to interesting content?
4) And how can you acquire this knowledge and stay up to date in this regard?
Digital Environment Adaptation Plan
I propose that you design your training plan to start taking the first step to expand your digital knowledge. It can be through online training, face-to-face courses, books or tutorials, learning forums, etc.
What first step do you want to take to start adapting to the digital environment?
• Digital communication and content creation:
I propose that you reflect on how much you communicate in digital environments today and if you know the keys to being able to work asynchronously. Asynchronous work gives you the freedom to choose the time you spend on your work topics, regardless of the time of others. This way you choose the time when you are most productive and can concentrate better, without interruptions.
o How can you develop your participation in online forums and debates, adding value?
Choose a topic of interest to start with and research which forums you want to start participating in to develop the skill of communicating in those environments.
o In addition to participating in forums or debates already created, what article or opinion post would you like to create? (You can start by posting professional content through a professional network, such as Linkedin, for example). This will allow you to train to generate valuable content and offer your opinions and ideas, generating a space that can contribute to your network.
• Collaboration and innovation of networking:
I propose that you reflect on whether you have the capacity to collaborate and cooperate in digital environments, sharing and generating information on a network.
1) What visual innovation platforms do you know to manage projects, meetings or teamwork workflows? (Miro, Mural, Creatly, Slack, Metroretro…). Which one would you like to research and test its applications?
2) Do you know what you want to do from now on to keep up to date with trends and news in this regard?
3) What platforms do you know for holding virtual meetings? Which ones do you want to start testing to see their differences and applications?
4) And what professional and personal networks do you know? What characteristics do they have? What is the predominant user profile of each of them? What is the network you would use to communicate digitally with your customers or your target audience?
I encourage you to research and delve into the tools and networks that currently exist on the internet to familiarize yourself with them, and thus boost your adaptation to the digital environment.
Encourage with these actions and continue to develop your ability to adapt to the digital environment.
